I told her my earliest memories were of wanting out. Wherever I was, I didn’t want to be there. Nothing has changed. I’m looking for the door right now.
“Sweetie,” she said, “you know there’s really only one way out, don’t you?

The ultimate question this week: What’s so amazing that keeps us stargazing?

<3 A good one!
Thanks!
Yes, the front door! Because I’m not going with that other interpretation 😉 Way to pack a punch into 42!
I’m with Stacie. La la la, she means the front door. Nothing menacing here.
lalalalala…
Yup, definitely referring to a front door. Opened by a unicorn. And outside there’s a rainbow. There’s never anything menacing going on around here.
🙂
How did you know I have this conversation daily?
Great Gargleblaster, Michelle!
Thanks!
This has rather an ominous feel to it, eh? I like that…a lot.
Thanks! I like ominous.
Enjoyed reading this take on the prompt
Thanks, I appreciate you reading!
Enjoyed it. The right punch!
Glad you liked it!
I love this. It’s mysterious and ominous and maybe even a little hopeful all at once.
Yes, I think there’s a little hope in here 🙂
Clean. I like the hook.
Thanks!
It’s all so final, and as someone wrote: ominous. Then, I read Stacie’s comment – I’ll go with the front door too… we have keys to come back in if we decide to!
I like that you looked at it from different angles!
Fantastic! Ominous, maybe, but I came away with the sense that you have (or, you know, the speaker has) someone on your side, someone to remind you gently of how the world works, and keep you anchored to the earth. It was the “Sweetie” that did it, I think. 🙂
I like your take on it. I think the way it reads to different people is really interesting!
Ooh, this is great! Loaded words, wonderfully placed. Love the matter-of-fact tone at the beginning and the reality check at the end.
Thanks so much!
My initial thought was “Is the only way out “through”?” I always feel like “through” is exactly the opposite of out.
Another very interesting perspective! I would agree that through isn’t really like out though. I mean, eventually it is, but how far you are from the other end can make a world of difference. I’m going to think about that a bit today.
I think through is better than out, like Lark. I liked it. A lot.
Thanks! I’m going to explore this idea of through a bit more.
Love it.
Thank you!
Oh! I love that last line!
Thanks!!
Oh, perfect! That’s how it should be done.
Thank you so much!
I liked this too–and the comments really added to what I got out of it. 🙂
I’m so glad!! Thank you 🙂
I want to know more about how to get out.
Well, I can’t really come out and say it, it’ll spoil the mood.
The word that springs to mind immediately is “Pragmatic”, as in having a practical point of view and leaning towards practical considerations. “She” is pragmatic and “Sweetie” is a searcher. You got all that and more with 42 words!
I think pragmatic is perfect!
