Clearing the house in preparation to sell, my aunt held up each item for my mother to consider its fate.
“What about these bottles?” she asked when she got to the liquor.
“Dump ’em. Michelle refilled them all with water years ago.”

Haha! You were smarter than my fictional misbehaving kids.

    • michellelongo says:

Well, not that smart since she obviously knew. The question though is when did she find out?

When I read Stacie’s piece, I had the thought that we moms frequently know more than we let on…sometimes it’s about picking battles. I am chagrined to think it was the same for my parents with me!

When she told me this story I asked her why she never said anything. She said it wasn’t worth it. Picking her battles…

  2. This is amazing. I’m so curious if she had always know and, if so, why she never said anything to you before.

    • michellelongo says:

She said she didn’t say anything because it wasn’t worth fighting about but I have no idea when she found out. I cleared them out in high school and I was out of college when she told me, so who knows!

  3. Hah! I tried that once, too. Good one.

    • michellelongo says:

It’s quite a mission when the bottle is almost full and you can’t finish it in one night. Then it involved interim containers and, ugh, what a pain! :)

Bagged!! I love the idea that the mother went through and checked all of those water-filled bottles!

  5. jetgirlcos says:

laughed! :-) how many things our parents know that we thought we hid…

    • michellelongo says:

I loved telling my mother stuff she didn’t know about and watching the look on her face. That was one of my favorite hobbies for a while!

  6. This is a truly whole story. Nicely done!

  7. oldendaysk says:

hmm, makes me wonder if I was ever caught? Loved this!

  8. wcdameron says:

Did we all do the same thing? Of course I blamed my brothers. :)

    • michellelongo says:

No one would have believed it was my brother, so I had to make sure not to get caught. At least not for a while though, right?

  9. Oh so that is where the rum went! Clever! LOL

  10. kalpana solsi says:

    Rum was missing.

  11. dowbiggin says:
