November is for Writers.

As the new managing editor at yeah write, I wanted to make sure we offered a November daily writing challenge to our community. I still stand by that idea. There’s just one little problem: I felt like I needed to participate in my own thing and the next thing I knew I had committed myself to writing a blog post every day for the month of November. It sounded like a really good idea at the time.

I haven’t written here since September. I have written plenty for my day job, for yeah write, and for a few freelance side gigs I have. I also have written PTA minutes and agendas, shopping lists, to-do lists, emails, FB status updates, tweets, texts, and ideas for future novels or short stories. But nothing here and that’s why I have to question my judgment when I thought that committing to daily blog writing was something doable.

Last night as I finally was able relax after a long day of parenting, trick or treating, and other activities fueled by way too much caffeine to try to calm down the raging migraine, I realized that today was November 1. I’m not ready! I mind-shouted to myself. And then I fell asleep.

Alas, what’s done is done.

I am ready though. I have a sheet of paper numbered 1 through 30 and I have 4 topics listed (including this post) so this should be a breeze, right? Writing isn’t for the weak. I’ve done this before. I’ll do it again.

Blogging every day is important because while I’ve been spending the last few months trying to acclimate to a 60 hour workweek that leaves little time for personal writing, I’ve let go of something very important: the fulfillment I get from writing. There’s writing for money and there’s writing for joy and there needs to be a balance between the two. I’ve totally lost the balance. November will help me get it back.

If you are a writer who blogs and you want to join me over at yeah write’s nomo writing challenge (nomo excuses!) then pop on over. You can still sign up for a few more days and as long as you post every day in November you are eligible for some prizes. But if you missed a day you can still hang because we’re cool like that.

In the meantime, I’ll be here doing my thing. Writing essays and nonsense and other stuff. I hope you’ll keep coming back to read.

This is yeah write’s nomo writing challenge Day 1.

Honestly, I’m not sure I have the time either. But I want to make the time to get my daily habit back so I figure this is as good a way as any. Good luck with nano!!
