Status of the Fat Ass.

I mentioned before that I was going to start a feature here about my journey toward better health.  I was going to call it Fitness Friday.  The problem is that Fridays aren’t a good writing day.  I’ve been trying to find another catchy title, but I’m at a loss.  I considered Weighty Wednesdays but that made me feel fat and also implies that the sole purpose was about losing weight when in reality it’s about being healthy.  Why don’t any days start with H?  That would be helpful. Someone get on that.

The next thing I thought of was Status of the Fat Ass.  Say it fast.  It almost rhymes.  But then I remembered how corny I am when I’m trying to be clever.  So while that’s the title of today’s post, I’m really hoping I come up with something else for next week.

Wednesday is a good day for me to write here, even if it’s a quick update, so I think I’m going to stick with that day.  If someone can think of a clever title, maybe even some alliteration with the word Wednesday, feel free to make a suggestion. If I use it, I’ll give you a (fat-free, low-cal) cookie next time I see you.

So here goes, the kick off post.  Had I done this two weeks ago, I would have said, “You guys, I weighed myself and I am 159.4 pounds, which is terrible, but at least it’s not 160.”

Now I can say this:

You guys, I weighed myself on Monday and I am 160.8 pounds.  Which is just terrible.  There is no but.

That weight is appropriate for someone at least five inches taller than I am.  Since I’m not likely to grow, I have a bit of a problem.

But this isn’t just about weight.  This is about healthy habits and bad habits, about being active versus being sedentary, and about having a healthy mindset versus a not-so-healthy one.

Today, even though I have picked up the stomach bug my kid just got over, even though my toe is still broken, and even though I was 100% not in the mood for this, I took myself out for a walk because it was just THAT beautiful out.  I managed 1.26 miles.  I’m glad I went.  I’m tired now.

Update: Since I wrote the first draft of this post, I can’t even pretend I don’t have this stomach virus.  I was pretending I was well when I went for the walk.  Now, not so much.  Oh well.  Sometimes denial works. This time it didn’t.

My reason for posting this feature weekly is simple.  I need some accountability.  I need to take care of myself regularly, not sporadically.  Next week I hope to tell you that I made some self-care progress.  For now I’ll leave it at that.  I hope you’ll join me on this part of my journey.

Update 2:  I had been hoping to have blood test results back by the time I started this feature.  The blood was drawn 2 weeks ago, but I never got results.  So I called and the doctor’s office took 2 days to call me back.  Apparently, the lab lost my blood.  How you lose blood is beyond me, but I’ve been invited back to have more blood drawn, “if I want to.”  Yes, that’s exactly what I *want* to do. Sigh.

Awww well at least the accountability sounds good, even if the bloodworks got lost (boo, hiss!).

*SO* wanted your line “There is no but.” to end ‘(just butt)’ 😉

  2. Whittle the Weight Wednesdays!

Is that how you spell whittle? Perhaps not. I’d google it but meh… You get what I’m implying!

If this was a vampire world I would say the blood wasn’t lost… consumed.

I need to stop reading teen romance novels. Anyway lol.

    Good luck,

    Dalrie (Carrie)

    • Someone said something about my lost bloodwork going to vampires when I was lamenting on Twitter last night. I like to think I fed a poor vampire child who would otherwise go hungry 😉

I think whittle is right, but it looks weird, doesn’t it? Good idea too!

Good to see you around Carrie. I read your post, but didn’t get to comment yet. Thinking of you and your family – sending good thoughts.

  3. How about Weighing in on Wednesday-that let’s us know how you are doing, what destructive habits you are trying to identify and eliminate and what successes and flops you attempted the previous week. I am trying not to Night eat-my biggest problem. I eat when I relax, which is always after dinner…specifically crackers-salty crunch food-and instead of substituting, I am trying hard core abstinence of anything but gum. It’s hard. Try as I might, I’ve had only one successful night. But that’s better than none I guess. At least I am conscious of it. I read the body never gets to “rest” if you keep feeding it. So beside adding 12 extra pounds to my frame, it’s a very unhealthy thing to do. I’ll keep you posted and will weigh in with my thoughts on Wednesdays. Keep us posted on FB.

    • Another good idea! I eat at night, too, just because the food is there. I also tend to make poor choices and over eat at meals, so really I have all the bad food habits. It really is hard to change patterns like that. I appreciate the support and look forward to hearing your updates as well!

  4. How about “Healthy Hump Day.” Or “Happy Humping Day.” hmmm, doesn’t quite get where you are trying to go, huh? Ok. Thank you for emphasizing health, which is jsut as important as weight. So grateful to see that. Hope you feel better.

    • I’m quite concerned about the attention this blog would get if I had a weekly feature that involved the word humping.

The health this is really most important. If I’m serious about that, the weight will come off anyway.

  5. They seriously lost your blood? That’s all they have to do. Their entire job is to not lose your blood.

    • I know, right? And the doctor’s office kept saying the LAB lost it, not the doctor, the LAB (which I know is true because I got mail from the lab already confirming receipt and nonsense about insurance). What a pain.

I’m with Sam… THEY HAD ONE JOB. Unbelievable. I’m SO sorry you caught the bug. I hope you fight it off more quickly than N did. Rest up and don’t try to do too much too soon. I love the motivation, but give yourself a gentle start, mmkay? Sending you hugs and saltines and ginger ale.

    • I’m definitely not as sick as he was, thank goodness. I should be able to do a light workout tomorrow. I took today off, I’m really not feeling it. Oh, and saltines were ALL I ate yesterday. We’re out, so thanks for sending more 😉
