Television.

One of my favorite hobbies is watching TV. I probably watch way more than any busy woman should and I’m really OK with that. In fact, while I type this, I’m catching up on last night’s episode of Revenge. It’s a silly show, but I enjoy it. It’s perfect for Monday night viewing. I’m in no mood to think too hard and I really don’t have to think all that hard to watch it.

Tonight’s viewing brought to mind some of the things that I can’t stand about TV. Here are my top four:

1. Why do people on TV address people by their first and last names so often? No one in my inner circle calls me Michelle Longo in casual conversation. In fact, they don’t often say my first name which I’m fine with. On TV though, it happens all the time.

2. I can count on no hands the number of times I’ve given myself a pep talk in the mirror. It has happened exactly never. Yet on TV, people seem to do with alarming frequency. Script writers, please stop having people do that.

3. People never finish drinks on TV. Someone stops by someone’s house and is offered a drink which they accept. The host provides coffee or water or scotch, the person takes one sip, puts the cup down and leaves. If you came into my house and had me pour you a cup of coffee and then you wasted it, I’d be furious. We stretch our food dollars over here. Don’t be so wasteful.

4. Let’s say two people were out somewhere together, perhaps at dinner, having a conversation about one topic or another. In the next scene, they are walking into the house and they are still talking about the same thing as if no time had passed. Did they not talk while paying the check, getting in the car or in the entire drive home? Did they just stay silent that whole time until they got to the next set?

I’m sure there are plenty of other things that bother me, but it’s getting late and I want to enjoy the second to last episode of Eastbound & Down.

This is NaBloPoMo Day 11.

Too true! Exactly never have I had a pep talk in the mirror either. I don’t watch enough TV to pick these things up because it’s all sports, all the time around here.

I could have thought of more if I was still capable of thinking at that hour. The only people who watch sports in my house are people who don’t live here. Oh, and once Nathan made us watch golf.

How often do you think about me (wink, wink). But when you see me, please don’t be so formal 🙂

I love the way you addressed these television shortfalls. Clearly, something must be done.
I actually hate laugh tracks. They distract me. Put that tired tradition to bed, folks.

Yes, laugh tracks are definitely annoying. I’ll decide if I want to laugh, thank you very much!

My friends and I often refer to each other by first and last names. We did it more often in college and when I worked in high school. Maybe because we were always called Miss and Mister in school, so we wanted to hear our full names once in a while. 🙂

I don’t know why it bothers me so much, but I hate when people say my name to me. I knew someone who used to call me by my first and last name and it really made me mad. I guess there wasn’t a good reason like you had – it makes sense for you!

Hahaha #3, yes. I always think about this one when I watch Gilmore Girls (no judgment, I still watch the reruns). They always order all this food and never really eat it. It drives me insane.

I love Gilmore Girls! It’s so sad it isn’t on Netflix. If it was, I’d probably never stop watching. At least they always had leftovers in the fridge.

OK, maybe it’s just me. Tomorrow I’m going to talk to myself in the mirror. Maybe that’s the answer to all of my problems.

screw the coffee, if someone wasted a glass of scotch over at my house, I might have to barricade the door. This was really funny and I, too, watch wayyyy too much television. Also, apparently women only use the restroom to put on lipstick, do cocaine, or have sex. There’s never any actually usage of the facilities.

That is one of my husband’s pet peeves, that you never see people take a time out to use the bathroom! When we watched 24 he was always furious that Jack Bauer didn’t go one time in a single season.
        Thanks for stopping by!

It’s funny, but you are one person that I think of by first and last name. I think it’s because your comments say “michellelongo”.

P.S. I love the new look of your blog!

As long as you don’t call me that when we see each other, it’s cool.
      Thanks about the blog look!

You know what makes me go bat shit crazy? The way they fold on TV. They just fold every shirt in half twice and put it in a pile. And don’t get me started on the towels!!! I may have to add to your list for next week. P.S. I have a girl crush on you.

      Kim, you made me blush.
I’ve never noticed how they fold. Now I’m going to have to look!
